Habitat for Humanity Durham is a charitable, community organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Volunteers must be 16 years of age and up, both students and seniors are welcome. Habitat for Humanity has a variety of opportunities from retail, warehouse, events, committees to actually building on our build sites.

Animal Services is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with the feeding, cleaning and socialization of cats while they are housed at their satellite adoption site at PetSmart on Brock Road in Pickering.

Help foster a love of reading in a child age 4 to 12 who would benefit from you reading or listening to them read. Anyone age 15 and up can participate in this program. Training is provided for volunteers.

The Ajax-Pickering Health Centre is one site in the larger Rouge Valley Health System which strives to provide a full range of health care services for the residents of West Durham. Volunteering and fundraising is done through the Auxiliary to the Ajax-Pickering General Hospital. Student volunteers, ages 14 and over, can assist in various areas of the hospital.

St. John’s Ambulance is dedicated to the service of others through First Aid services and CPR Training. Through their youth volunteer program, ages 11 to 18 plus, can get involved providing community care or patient care services in their community.

St. Paul’s on the Hill is a bible-based ministry providing community outreach. The Food Bank is available to residents of Ajax/Pickering. Their Thanksgiving and Easter food drives are wonderful opportunities for students to help out by delivering flyers or sorting food.
