Library Closures Due to COVID-19

Last updated: July 7, 2020

Starting July 9, Pickering's Central Library will offer public computer access on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (see calendar for hours of operation and to book an appointment).

Appointments will be available and are highly recommended, as limited walk-in spots will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. Appointments and walk-in access are both limited to 45 minutes per visit. Please read full details at picnet.org/computeraccess. Regular on-site service and access has not resumed.

The George Ashe Library and Claremont Library remain closed until further notice.

Curbside service is available at the George Ashe Library and the Central Library! This service is by appointment only. For full details, visit picnet.org/curbsideservice.

Pickering Public Library continues to offer support to our clients via phone, email, video conferencing and online chat during the current library closure. If you need remote assistance with anything Library or technology related, email us at [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Please see below for continuous updates on hours of operation.

Status update on operations:

  • Updates regarding the City’s response to COVID-19 will be communicated online at pickering.ca.
  • All in-person Library programs are cancelled until further notice. Please see our program calendar for online programs.
  • All room bookings at the Pickering Public Library are cancelled until further notice. Full refunds will be issued for any rentals that are cancelled as a result of this closure. New room booking requests cannot be processed at this time.
  • For materials loaned prior to the library closure, due dates have been extended to July 16. The Library is accepting returns, however rest assured clients will not incur late fees during this time. Drop boxes at the George Ashe Library and the Central Library have re-opened. The drop box at the Claremont Library remains closed at this time. When using the drop box, please note:
    • Donations will not be accepted and will be discarded immediately due to safety concerns and guidelines related to COVID-19.
    • Curbside staff will not accept returns directly. Items must be placed in the drop box to ensure a contactless experience for clients and staff.
  • Curbside service is available at the Central Library and George Ashe Library by appointment only. For location hours and to book an appointment, please click here. (Tip! Type 'curb' into the keyword search to only view curbside service appointment times). For more details about curbside service, visit picnet.org/curbsideservice.
  • Clients can submit new hold requests for materials currently housed at the George Ashe Library and the Central Library. Holds can now be transferred between the George Ashe Library and the Central Library for curbside pickup (by appointment only). When placing a hold, please be sure to selected the desired pickup location. See full details at picnet.org/curbsideservice.
