Sequel to Disgaea:Hour of Darkness, this PS2 game will be very familiar to players of the first in the series, in terms of game play it is almost identical. A series of turn based battles on an isometric map. You command characters of various classes such as Warriors or Wizards. You have numerous "Named" characters, but are also able to create a support team based upon what types of characters you wish to play.
You take the Role of Adel, the only human left in the world, the vicious Demon Lord Zenon having transformed everyone else into demons. After a plan to summon Zenon to battle backfires and summons his Daughter Rozalin instead, you follow Adel in his quest to defeat Zenon, transform his family back into humans, and return Rozalin to her father.
The characters are not as amusing as the cast of the first game, but are still funny, with some good dialogue. The characters from the first game make appearances as well, but are not central to the plot for the most part.
This game is good, but suffers due to the fact that it is both too similar, and too different from the first game in the series. If you have played the first game, this is more of the same, with a different story. It is too different in that it does not continue the story of the first game, and neglects the loveably bizaro characters of that title.
Like the first game, Disgaea 2 offers almost unlimited replay value, with new character classes, hidden non-story maps, cameos of characters from different NIS (the Publisher) Games. As well as unlimited random maps from the "Item world" dungeon.
All in all, this game is worth playing if you enjoy the turn based tactical games. I give it 4 thumbs up!
