Gold
Tom Jones
Santa Monica, CA: Hip-O, 2005.
This 2 cd set had a lot of songs that I wasn't familiar with. I never realized he had so many love songs! I own several greatest hits that have his more poppy stuff. I did enjoy him singing the ballads but I wasn't overly impressed with the sound quality. It said it was digitally remastered but it seemed to lack something. I normally love blaring 'Daughter of Darkness' in the car, I think this would make a fantastic industrial song with lots of drums and heavy guitar. This version just seemed really clean somehow. I kept thinking I didn't have the bass and treble set right but I never change them so the songs on these cds just didn't sound as good as the others I have. And it doesn't have his more recent hits -- understandably since they didn't hit Gold but a collection of hits doesn't seem complete if it isn't current. I have listened to it over and over in the car and am enjoying learning the new songs now that I've changed the settings on my stereo!
I even grabbed the DVD Smash Hits to watch with my mom so I can hear some of the songs live. That's how I got hooked on him in the first place, watching him on tv with my mom when I was little.
