Election and Referendum Day for Ontario is set for October 10, 2007 when millions of eligible voters will take to the polls to vote for Ontario's next leadership and decide on possible electoral reform.

This year marks Ontario’s first-ever referendum on electoral reform, and the question being asked is as follows:

Which electoral system should Ontario use to elect members to the provincial legislature?

The two proposed systems are (1) the existing electoral system also referred to as "First-Past-the-Post" OR (2) the alternative electoral system proposed by the Citizens’ Assembly (Mixed Member Proportional).

It's a very important question, and a very important decision, which is why the Government of Ontario wants all Ontarians to be informed and educated. A special Referendum Ontario website has been setup to clearly explain everything you need to know in order to answer this important question on election day including details on each proposed electoral system and what it means for future elections.

There is also no shortage of election information. The Toronto Star online has an extensive section dedicated to the upcoming election including information about each political party as well as profiles on the ridings of Pickering-Scarborough East and Ajax-Pickering. Each profile includes a list of all the candidates running in Pickering-Scarborough East and Ajax-Pickering. Elections Ontario also has a website to aid Ontarians about the election process in Ontario as well as profiles of all registered political parties and their policies.
