Celebrate Canadian Citizenship Week @ Your Library

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship, and Pickering Public Library wants to help you celebrate Canadian Citizenship Week (October 15th to 21st).

Did you know that prior to 1947 people living in Canada were considered British subjects? The passage of the Citizenship Act showed that Canada was now its own sovereign nation, and ready to become an important member on the international stage. This year, Canadian Citizenship Week will help Canadians reflect on how far Canada has come in 60 years, and what Canadian Citizenship means to all of us living in Canada.

The first place to visit is the official Canadian Citizenship web page on Citizenship and Immigration Canada's web site. There you will find lots of information pertaining to citizenship in Canada including a historical timeline as well as a quiz. The CBC also has web page dedicated to Canadian Citizenship Week.

The Pickering Public Library also has a good assortment of materials on citizenship in Canada including materials to help you study for the citizenship test. Please be sure to visit any one of our 5 branches for more information or by phone at 905-831-6265.
