Pickering Public Library Launches New Web Site
After two glorious years since our last web site redesign, Pickering Public Library is proud to announce the launch of the library's new web site.
This is our fifth major redesign over the last several years, and each new revision has seen many noticeable improvements over the last. This version is no exception, and we have you, our loyal Pickering Public Library customers, to thank.
We listened to all of your comments, and designed a web site with your suggestions in mind. Here are some of the major improvements:
- A fast and friendly web site, both in design and functionality. We know that in today's world, time is very important to people. We kept that in mind when designing this new web site using the latest software and improved web design techniques insuring that each page loads quickly. We also designed this site to ensure that the most commonly requested queries are just a click or two away such as the library catalogue, my account and branch hours and locations.
- Web 2.0 and user contribution. What makes web sites different today compared to just a few years ago is that content is not only created by site owners, but also from users just like you. Web 2.0 allows for more user contribution of content allowing for a richer, more dynamic web experience. Use this new web site to submit your own comments on the various postings as well as submitting your own book, movie and music reviews.
- Up-to-date and accurate. Advances in web site management software allow for more staff to be involved in creating web site content. This will allow us to provide an up-to-date and accurate web site with timely information that matters to you most like upcoming library programs, important announcements and new library services.
- Virtual branch concept. We like to think of our web site as Pickering Public Library's sixth branch, and so should you. You can easily do some of the most commonly requested tasks right on our web site such as search for books, videos and CDs, put holds on items, create custom lists and much more.
- Improved access to our collection of research databases. We have an excellent set of research databases for everyone covering almost every subject imaginable from auto repair to history to streaming music. We have also made it much easier to access these products requiring only a library card number or postal code.
So please be sure to browse around this new web site and leave us your comments. We would very much like to hear what you have to say. And remember, wherever you are, think library!

wonderful job on the new website. it's really clear and easy to navigate.
Wow. Great format, love what's been done with the teen page!
Just a suggestion... I noticed the Research Databases are now grouped into topic. Perhaps one alphabetical list of all the sites can be made as well? I've just found it a bit tricky to get used to picking which category a few are in.
Thanks!
