New Osteoporosis Collection
The Ajax-Pickering Osteoporosis Support Group, through the generosity of Mr. Jim Brewster in memory and honour of his late wife Lorraine Brewster, have donated a sizeable amount of money for the purchase of new titles dealing with this disease.
These titles include books and DVD videos that deal with topics such as:
- What Osteoporosis is
- How to prevent it
- Exercises and physical activities for people living with Osteoporosis
- Cookbooks and nutritional information
According to Osteoporosis Canada, Osteoporosis is "a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. This leads to increased bone fragility and risk of fracture, particularly of the hip, spine and wrist. Osteoporosis is often known as "the silent thief" because bone loss occurs without symptoms".
The Pickering Public Library now has an excellent collection of materials dealing with this disease. At the same time, you can check out the reorganized Central Library and browse the various sections like our popular 'Mind and Body' section as well as our medical section for other health related topics. Searching our excellent collection of research databases will also compliment your health related enquiries. Please contact any one of our 5 branches for more information.
