Making Pickering Stronger

Free Management Training for Small Businesses

The Pickering Public Library has recently been awarded a provincial grant in order to expand our service to the business community and to create a management training program and self-study collection free of barriers. With this grant, the Library has arranged to have instructors from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) deliver FREE management training courses for Pickering small buisinesses at the Pickering Central Library.

Many recent studies have shown the importance of management skills in building economic success. In fact, a recent OECD study has cited Canada’s lack of investment in training to be one of the key factors in a loss of global competitiveness. Other studies show that small and medium sized businesses have a significant need for management training at several key points in their development as they evolve from a single person business to a larger enterprise.

Despite the demonstrated need and benefits from management training most small and medium sized businesses find that affordability, inconvenient access, and time constraints create a significant barrier to participation.

This series of courses, titled "Making Pickering Stronger" will consist of six (6) once-a-month, day-long sessions located at the Central Library. Together these 6 courses constitute the essential skills that managers need to succeed.
