Pickering Public Library Community Report 2012
Message from the Board Chair

The Ontario Public Libraries Act directs Council to appoint a Library Board which is charged with operating a comprehensive, efficient public library service that meets the community’s unique needs. In Pickering, 10 appointed members of the library Board (8 citizens and 2 councillors) meet monthly in a public forum to ensure that the public is being well-served.

I invite all residents of Pickering to attend regular meetings of the Board as well as focus groups which explore various decisions that the Board must make such as a Central Library Expansion or a new Strategic plan. If you are not able to attend the events, you can provide feedback via email to the board@picnet.org or you can speak to any Board member at various community events that we attend.

I am very pleased to report that the performance of the Pickering Public Library has been exemplary over the last year. We continue to be one of the most used, most award winning libraries in the province, as our performance measures can attest.

As we move into a changing future, our Library will continue to evolve to meet the changing demographic and technology needs of our community retaining those essential principles of public libraries – the ability to inspire, connect, and enrich all members of our community, which make the Pickering Public Library the heart of an engaged and creative,
21st century city.
