We have many technology services that you may not know about and we are working hard to ensure that we are providing the technology services you need, anytime and anywhere.

iHelp Technology Service

Have a computer or hi tech gadget problem that you just cannot figure out?
Let the iHelp technology service staff help you with all of your technology needs.

Hours at the Central Library:
Mondays - Fridays 9:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sundays 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The iHelp centre provides access to four Apple iMac computers fully that are stocked with state-of-the-art media creation software and two photo printing and scanning kiosks.
Specifically, library clients will be able to:

  • Print digital photos from many makes of digital cameras as well as from digital photo media such as Compact Flash and SD cards.
  • Scan and convert old print photos to a digital format and archive these onto a CD/DVD or flash drive.
  • Use Adobe PhotoShop to create and edit photos and other pixel-based digital imagery.
  • Use Adobe Illustrator to create and edit vector-based digital imagery such as logos and other digital art.
  • Use Adobe InDesign to create and edit sophisticated print-based page layouts such as books, pamphlets and flyers.
  • Use Apple GarageBand to create that musical masterpiece for your blog or podcast.
  • Use Apple Final Cut Express to create and edit digital video for your website or create a DVD to display on your television.
  • Sign out a Library eReader or iPod pre-loaded with ebooks and audiobooks, or bring in your own iPod or iPhone.
  • Computer and technology advice, Operating System questions for Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux, software recommendations including free and open source alternatives answered by our knowledgeable staff and much more.

Although the Library provides access to thousands of ebooks and e-audiobooks, there are some titles that are not available. This is because some publishers, major ones included, do not make their ebooks available for lending through libraries. However, we are actively adding titles to our ebook collection. If you have any particular requests for an ebook or e-audiobook, please make a suggestion using this form.

Keep Pickering Public Library in your pocket! PPL Mobile makes it easy to find and discover materials in your favourite library, manage your account, and get the branch and availability information you need.

Freegal Music

Freegal is a digital music service that allows you to search a large collection of music and download songs permanently at no charge. It provides access to hundreds of thousands of major label songs by new & legendary artists from Sony, RCA, Columbia, and Epic, among others.

Ready to start a conversation? With Mango Languages’ Library Edition App you can get free access to over 30 foreign language courses and 14 English courses taught in the user’s native language.

Need access to computers with blazing fast internet access? Come to the Library and we’ll help you to get set up on one of our 50 Library Computers. To access the Internet, you will need a valid Pickering Library Card and a PIN number, which is typically the last four digits of your phone number.
